I have been waiting for this moment for more than 10 years. I’m very happy to announce that the Exelis VIS Documentation Center:
is now live and hosting the IDL Help on the web. Now, when I’d like to show someone the side effects of the ++ operator, or explain how to call the Save method of the PLOT function, I can provide a direct link to the appropriate Help page. I’ve been using the Docs Center as my primary help system for over a month now, and I’m satisfied with how it works. Note that each Help page has a Comments section on the bottom — please feel free to add helpful comments for others; e.g., I’ve added comments to FFT and MAX.

Great! I also like the comments; I used to use the button to notify the docs department in the Workbench help all the time. I have already submitted a fix.
Awesome! It’s about @#$% time
.
Really awesome, I wasn’t sure first but now I think I’ll only use it
I’ll echo the crowd that this is a welcome addition. And I think the comments will be a great way for users to add helpful hints. But I’m a little worried that they will end up turning into long discourses & help sessions, à la the newsgroup. Any thoughts on keeping it concise and orderly, or whether that’s even desirable? (Personally, I think the whole thing should be turned into a wiki…)
Eduardo Iturrate & I have to approve the comments, so we’ll ensure that they’re productive. I really do hope that people add useful comments.
And I agree (and so does Mike Galloy) that a wiki would be best. Maybe this is a first step?
